Looking Cool Verses Functionality

I live in a very rural area, and with that there come many unique things that people who live in a big city would not think of. For example, take a look at my pickup truck, then take a look at a pickup that a typical city dweller might drive. The entire philosophy behind adding after market accessories is completely different.

Someone in a city might do a lift kit and bigger tires, but it is just for looks. Or how about mud flaps on a vehicle that never goes off road? Step bars on the side actually make sense on any truck; chrome door handles and a chrome gas cap cover serve no purpose at all other than to look cool.

The modifications I have made to my pickup truck are driven by necessity. For example, I have installed Hella Rallye 4000 driving lights that allow me to see the animals crossing my desolate stretch of road when I am coming home at night. I also have a push bar and brush guards on the front of my truck just in case Bambi jumps out in front of me. Yea, they look cool, but they serve a serious purpose. After all, if you live in a city, you probably don’t have to worry about hitting a bear or an elk!
